The Traditions of Caine are central to the unlives of all Cainites, but Mithras has used his position as Monarch of Avalon to formalize the Old Ways within his domain. These Blood Laws specify the Traditions, making them unambiguous and related to the unliving conditions of England. Mithras’s followers rigidly enforce the Blood Laws in the cities, particularly in London and the baronial seats, with punishments ranging from fines (usually a “blood tithe”) and revocation of rights to banishment or blood hunt. Elsewhere, particularly in the countryside, law gives way to convention, and minor infractions are overlooked. Nonetheless, visiting Cainites are advised to seek the patronage of a local and become familiar with the Blood Laws as speedily as possible.
The Blood Laws contain all six Traditions, but have several legal alterations that Mithras added because he believes that they fit the people under his domain more closely. The laws stipulated a series of fines and punishments to those who breach them, and draw on legal precedents as established by princes throughout the land. In most cases, violators will pay a certain amount of vitae to the Baron that ruled the fief. The Blood Laws hold sway in all Baronies of Avalon, from Dublin to Norwich, and constitute one of the first written records of the six Traditions.
The Traditions enforced most severely are the Tradition of Destruction and of Silence, where violators were submitted to the Blood Hunt, and the Tradition of Progeny and Accounting. Minor violations of the Masquerade are tolerated.
A side note : After the formation of the Camarilla, Mithras took some time before he accepted the new rulings that were the brainchild of Hardestadt and his peers, but eventually smoothed the Blood Laws to fit with Camarilla interpretations.
